Loveland, CO: Riverview RV Park

Last night we stayed up to watch the re-broadcast of the Olympics Opening Ceremony from Beijing; Most of the original broadcast had been squashed by a huge thunderstorm in Denver. Am I ever glad we caught the re-broadcast starting at 1:30 am. The drums alone were worth feeling a little tired today; the rest of the pageantry was just icing on the cake. Without a doubt I and probably many others will have to re-evaluate their opinion of the Chinese.

And boy, do I feel sorry for the next country to host the summer Olympics when they try to 'top' Beijing's opening ceremony!

In spite of being a little tired from lack of sleep, we got up early enough to make the Pancake & Sausage Breakfast offered every Saturday morning by the local Kiwanis'. A fun, if somewhat sugar-packed, way to start the day.

After taking care of some chores in the town of Loveland, we turned the car around a headed due West, directly up the mountain to Estes Park and the Rocky Mountain National Park. Made it most of the way before MLA started feeling sick again. It's a combination of having been sick for the last 4-5 days, the twisting mountainous roads and the altitude. We'll try again in a day or two when she's up to it.

The road winds it's way along the Big Thompson River. We stopped at one small park and I was able to wade into the river a ways to get a few pictures. Cold but refreshing; after a minute or two you didn't notice the cold, or maybe I couldn't feel my feet. Just kidding, it was cold but not that cold.

Spectacular scenery all along the route with lots of pull-outs and small parks tucked into the rocky valleys along the narrow river.

The RV park we are staying in, Riverview RV Park & Campground, is also along the river, just at a lower elevation. Very nice setting. In addition, in the places where they had to cut down a tree they left up to ten feet of the stump behind. These stumps have been carved for display purposes and some are quite clever and intricate. Very nice touch and you find them all over the campground as a little surprise....

Just read Money Magazine and it listed the Ft Collins/Loveland area as one of the best places to live in the US; from what we've seen so far I'd have to agree. Lots to see and do especially if you are an outdoor enthusiast. In fact, in Ft Collins thy have a bicycle lending library where you can 'check out' a bicycle for up to a week for FREE. Plus every road seems to have dedicated bicycle lanes.

If you love the outdoors, you are going to love Colorado. If you love beautiful rugged scenery, you are going to love Colorado. We love it here; the mountains are a very special place.

Oh, no cell phone coverage so when you call us, leave a voicemail and we'll return your call when we head back into town....

See Ya!
