The rain and clouds finally lifted late this afternoon after a good two day soak here in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. The sun came out and brought the temperature up a few degree's turning a cool, dreary day into a comfortable and bright evening.
Finished a couple of books over the last two days which is always a great way to relax and have fun. When the weather improved MLA and I went out to enjoy the fresh air and sunshine. Very nice. The rain washed away whatever makes the mountains appear a little washed out; this evening everything was crisp and clear.
We leave Colorado on Monday and I'm really going to miss this state. The beauty of Colorado is something very special. I'm sure we'll see other states with majestic mountains that have lots of natural beauty as we travel North however Colorado appears to have the whole package. In addition to spectacular scenery you have a great climate with little or no humidity, and a focus on outdoor activities that is simultaneously exciting and exhausting: mountain climbing, bouldering, kayaking, mountain biking, hiking, canoe, gem hunting, para sailing, boating, skiing, windsurfing and lots of camping. Huge sections of the state are reserved for wilderness camping.
A very special place; I recommend you find a way to visit if at all possible.
Took a break writing this post to watch Micheal Phelps win his 8th gold medal. Wow. Adjectives fail me on his accomplishment. Makes you proud to be an American (and a fellow Marylander). And a fellow swimmer (hey I've been in a pool a time or two).
Feel a little sorry for his team mates on the relays though. I mean, the TV anchors talk as if Micheal's team mates were only there to make Micheal a winner of 8 gold medals. Let's give them credit where credit is due. First and foremost, they swam their hearts out to win a gold medal for themselves, I mean, they were swimming to win a gold medal for themselves, and rightly so. The fact that it propelled Micheal to 8 gold medals is historic and very special, however they deserve recognition for their own very special accomplishment of winning a gold medal. Oh well, I be quiet now.
And, congratulations Micheal Phelps. Hard to imagine his accomplishment will ever be beaten however that's what they said when Mark Spitz won 7 gold medals. Only time will tell.
Now, MLA wants to attend the 2010 Winter Olympics which will be held in Vancouver, BC. At least she wanted to attend the Winter Olympics until I reminded her they are held during, well, the winter. Snow, ice, cold temperatures. Now she's thinking we should watch the 2010 Winter Olympics from our RV while parked on a sunny beach somewhere. Sounds like a plan.
See Ya!
