I need to apologize to the good citizens of the town of Tonopah, Nevada. In last night's post I said it was a town barely hanging on without a whole lot going for it. Turns out I was wrong. Tonapah is in the exact center of the darkest region of the US.
Yep, that's right. The darkest part of the US. People apparently come from all over to star gaze in the Tonapah region. They even hand out 'Star Gazer Maps' that show the best roads to travel on to see the stars overhead. Turns out you can see 7th magnitude stars in the Tonapah region with the naked eye. More stars are visible overhead in the area just outside of this town than anywhere else in the US. And because it's in the high desert region of Nevada they have more clear nights than most other places as well.
Except for last night when we were there. There was a huge storm (rare in the desert) and the clouds blocked our view of the stars last night. Too bad. MLA and I would have really enjoyed doing a little star gazing, especially since we had no TV and a very slow Internet connection.
Anyhow, my apologies to the good people of Tonopah. We'll be back some day and we plan to take full advantage of everything Tonopah has to offer. Meaning, we will look up while in the area.

The old downtown area of Vegas is now called the Fremont Experience. They have blocked off some of the streets and built a huge roof over some of the street to make it a large outdoor covered pavilion with all of the neon lights on display. It's a must see in my opinion.
We are planning to hit some other shows while in Vegas. MLA wants to see Mama Mia and I want to see one of the Cirque-Du-Soleil shows. We see what we can get tickets for and I let you know how it goes.
See Ya.
